Little Green Change's challenges and competitions

Schools Energy Competition

We've teamed up with The Naturesave Trust to run an energy competition across UK state-funded primary and secondary schools with a prize pot of £500.

The environmental problem:
Schools are currently facing extremely high energy prices due to changing market conditions, yet there are a variety of changes that can be made to help lower energy consumption and/or make the energy used in schools greener (renewable).

How to enter:
To be in with a chance of winning £500, simply tell us how your school would spend this money to lower its energy consumption and/or to produce or use renewable energy. You may wish to focus on one area, or multiple areas, such as heating, hot water, lighting, technology and equipment (for example, solar power). This prize pot can be used to fund all or some of your actions. Remember to cover what you'd like to do, how you'll do it, where you'd make the changes (your school address), what your timescale is for these changes, how much energy or money you predict your school would save over 5 years, and how you'll get students involved (for example, carrying out an assembly or creating awareness posters). Supporting photos are encouraged (for example, students brainstorming ideas). Send your entry to info@littlegreenchange.com by 10am on Friday 28th March 2025. Terms and conditions apply.

Transforming Textiles Challenge

Can you turn pre-loved textiles into something fabulous? Whether it's a stained t-shirt, a torn pair of jeans, or an unwanted duvet cover, the only rule of this competition is nothing can be purchased new - unless it's second hand, for example from a charity shop and proof of purchase can be provided.

The environmental problem:
According to the UN, the fashion industry produces up to 8% of global carbon emissions, with dyeing textiles being the second-largest cause of water pollution globally. With tonnes of textiles being burned or buried in landfill sites every day, and workers in the global textile industry often being poorly paid and working in appalling conditions, it makes sense for us to reuse and upcycle whenever we can.

How to enter:
Send us a photo of you making your item, and one of you with your finished creation, to info@littlegreenchange.com. We'll add the best photos to our website and social media channels. Terms and conditions apply.

Our Schools Programme covers different environmental topics including biodiversity, waste, water, energy, travel, purchasing, and human health. You can find out more about this programme on our education page.

A selection of photos, submitted by participating schools and students, will be added to our Wall of Fame.
